The character of Thing (the hand) in The Addam’s Family and Addam’s Family Values was played by Christopher Hart, and was done using special effects including blue screen technology, where he was wearing a blue suit or sleeve, to block out the rest of his body except for the hand. Mr. Hart played the part in both movies.
