About the Addams Family

If you are as big a fan of the Addams Family as I am then you probably already know what I am about to say. If you are new to this macabre, interesting, and hilarious group of individuals, then here is just a little background for you to read.

Addams Family Creator

The Addams Family creator was an American cartoonist by the name Charles Addams. The cartoon was originally a one panel cartoon that was published in the New Yorker in 1938. It ran an amazing 50 years until Addams’ death in 1988. It has since been adapted to a variety of media including television, video games, films and musicals.

Addams Family House

The Addams Family House was actually a gloomy mansion that sat adjacent to a swamp and a cemetery (of course). The original address was 0001 Cemetery Lane. The address was later changed to 1313 Cemetery Lane in “The New Addams Family”. The change was in reference to it’s rival show “The Munsters”. When it came out as a musical in 2009 (first shown in Chicago) the house was located in Central Park.

Addams Family Values

The Addams are by no means evil, although from the outside looking in it may appear that way. They are a very tight knit extended family with great family values. Morticia is a wonderful mother and remains passionate to her husband Gomez. She can initiate this passion by speaking any words of French  which causes Bubele (her pet name for Gomez) to kiss her arm.

They are supportive of their children, kind to their neighbors, and willing to donate large sums of money to many causes. Did I mention they are extremely wealthy?

They are unaware that outsiders are horrified by their peculiar ways. They retain great family values no matter how bizarre they may seem.

A Quote by Charles Addams

“Gomez and Pugsley are enthusiastic. Morticia is even in disposition, muted, witty, sometimes deadly. Grandma Frump is foolishly good-natured. Wednesday is her mother’s daughter. A closely knit family, the real head being Morticia—although each of the others is a definite character — except for Grandma, who is easily led. Many of the troubles they have as a family are due to Grandma’s fumbling, weak character. The house is a wreck, of course, but this is a house-proud family just the same and every trap door is in good repair. Money is no problem.”
